Schwartzenegger & Austrian President Join F1 Stars To Pay Respect To Lauda

According to a report by CNN, on Wednesday, the funeral of Formula One legend Niki Lauda took place in Vienna, where some of the sport's most recognizable stars were in attendance. Among those who came to pay their respects was defending F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton and his former teammate Nico Rosberg, alongside Alain Prost, who raced with the Austrian at McLaren in the 1980s. Reuters reports that Austria's President Alexander Van der Bellen and Arnold Schwarzenegger were also in attendance.

    The U.S. government will pay American farmers hurt by the trade war with China. Farmers are to receive between $15 and $150 per acre in an aid package totaling $16 billion. Officials said Thursday that disbursements will be made according to geographic area, rather than crop. Reuters reports farmers in the South are likely to see higher rates than in the Midwest. Assistance begins in mid-to-late August U.S. farmers are a key Trump constituency, and have been among the hardest hit in the year-long trade war. Shipments of soybeans, the most valuable U.S. farm export, to top buyer China sank to a 16-year low in 2018. Democrats criticized the move, saying farmers needed fair trade instead of a bailout.

  • U.S. House Passes Bill To Raise Federal Minimum Wage

    The U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation to raise the federal minimum wage. The amount varies by state but it will raise to $15 an hour by October 2025, says Reuters. Seattle, San Francisco, New York state, California, Arkansas and Missouri have already raised their minimum wage. Amazon.com and Costco start at $15 an hour and Target promises the same by the end of 2020. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi celebrated by saying about 33 million people in the country are getting a raise. McDonald's and Walmart have both opposed raising wages in the past. Only time will tell if major businesses will begin raising wages to provide a living or minimum wages.
