Japanese Prosecutors Raid Ghosn's Tokyo Residence


According to Automotive News, prosecutors in Japan raided the residence of Carlos Ghosn. Japanese prosecutors raided the disgraced auto executive's Tokyo residence early in the morning on April 3rd. At least 14 officials entered the residence shortly before 6 a.m. local time,and asked Ghosn to voluntarily head to the prosecutor’s office. Although it is not clear why prosecutors raided his residence, it may lead to his arrest again.

    Tokyo prosecutors plan to arrest Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance CEO Carlos Ghosn on a fresh claim of understating his income. The arrest could keep Ghosn in detention until the end of the year, says Reuters. Since November 19, Ghosn has been detained in Tokyo on suspicion of conspiring with former Nissan Representative Director Greg Kelly. His detention was extended on Friday by Tokyo authorities until the maximum December 10 deadline.

  • Ghosn Hit With Fresh Charges

    CNN is reporting that Carlos Ghosn has been indicted on fresh charges of breach of trust. The Tokyo Prosecutors' Office said Ghosn is suspected of funneling $5 million of Nissan's money to a car dealership he controlled. The new indictment is the fourth set of formal charges made by Japanese prosecutors against the former chairman of Nissan and Renault. The charges come on the day Ghosn's most recent detention in Tokyo was due to expire.

  • Tokyo Prosecutors Complain About Ghosn Bail Condiions

    On Friday, a Tokyo prosecutor complained about the bail conditions imposed on Carlos Ghosn. Reuters reports that Prosecutors think Ghosn's bail conditions would not be sufficient to prevent tampering of evidence. Shin Kukimoto, deputy public prosecutor at the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, was speaking to reporters on Thursday. Ghosn was released on 1 billion yen bail from the Tokyo jail where he had been held for more than 100 days in a small cell with no heating. Ghosn is charged with financial misconduct and facing a maximum prison sentence of 15 years. He has agreed to strict bail conditions and will submit to extensive surveillance.
