Democrats Question Biden's Age

Description

Donald Trump has one thing in common with Democrats: concern over Joe Biden's age. Politico reports that questions about Biden's age and vigor are increasingly surfacing within his own party, The questions are fueled by Biden's relatively light campaign schedule and attempts to limit his public exposure. If elected, Biden would be 78 upon entering the White House, making him the oldest president ever to take the office.

  • What Does Leana Wen’s Firing Reveal About Planned Parenthood?

For decades, Planned Parenthood has insisted that it’s a health care organization. The organization says it only cares about abortion as it’s a function of health care. To prove that point it hired Leana Wen, the first doctor to head the organization in fifty years. Wen insisted that abortions are just a tiny share of its purpose. She pushed the health care angle of Planned Parenthood. The board of Planned Parenthood has terminated Wen after less than a year.

  • Which Candidates Are Big Donors Betting On?

The biggest fundraisers in the Democratic Party have identified early favorites in the 2020 race. Big-money Democratic donors have jumped off the sidelines of the presidential race. Politico reports that three candidates are the clear winners of their support: Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg and Kamala Harris. Each of those three candidates received more than 220 donations from top fundraisers, known as bundlers. These same bundlers helped raise at least $100,000 (and sometimes many multiples more) for Hillary Clinton. Close to 40 percent of the 810 bundlers who have donated to a 2020 Democrat so far have given to more than one candidate.

  • Busing Battle Blindsided Biden

Joe Biden told CNN he was caught off guard and "wasn't prepared" for Sen. Kamala Harris' attack on his record on racial issues and busing. "I was prepared for them to come after me, but I wasn't prepared for the person coming at me the way she came at me." In the first Democratic debates, Harris took a targeted shot at Biden touting his work with pro-segregation senators in the 1970s. She also went after his previous opposition to federally-mandated busing as a tool to integrate schools. Biden was a vocal advocate against most forms of federally mandated busing. He introduced legislation and amendments to limit the practice and calling it "an asinine concept" at the time. Harris eventually backtracked on the position she took during the debate that the federal government "must step in" to enforce busing.

  • Democrats Debate Dilemma

The July DNC Debates are around the corner and Democrats have a dilemma. 21 candidates have passed a modest qualification threshold for the July debates. The candidates have either hitting 1 percent in three qualifying polls or getting 65,000 donors. That’s one more candidate than the Democratic National Committee has said it will allow on stage across the two nights. Someone has to get cut. The DNC’s tiebreakers prioritize candidates who hit both the polling and financial thresholds. That's followed by candidates who only have the polling benchmark, sorted by poll average, and then candidates who have hit only the donor mark. So far, 14 candidates have passed the threshold and 7 are left to duke it out for six spots.

Biden's campaign started weeks later than Buttigieg's. Biden's team said the candidate raised more per day than any of his rivals.
