Mindy Kaling Turned Down ‘Dream Job’ To Stay On ‘The Office’

Just about the only comedy milestone that Kaling hasn’t accomplished is becoming a cast member on SNL, and even that nearly happened. In a recent interview, Kaling revealed that midway through season two of The Office, she was invited to audition for SNL. Even though she was under contract, showrunner Greg Daniels told her to audition for SNL and if she was cast, they'd let her go. However, when she auditioned, they offered her a position as a writer instead of a performer, which wasn't what her and Daniels agreed to.
