Separatist militants killed at least 39 people in "coordinated" attacks in southwestern Pakistan that largely targeted ethnic Punjabis, government officials said. In one of the attacks, dozens of militants stopped vehicles travelling on a highway through Balochistan province and shot 23 people dead -- one of the worst shootings in the region in the past several years. NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg says that he expects the United States to remain a key ally in NATO "regardless of the outcome" of the presidential election ahead of a debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. "I expect that regardless of the outcome of the US elections, the US will remain a strong NATO ally because that is in the security interest of the United States.
