Formula 1 arrives in Australia for what will be the first race this year to be held as usual on a Sunday, after the first two rounds of the season were run on Saturday in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Australians love their motorsport and Ferrari is particularly popular here, making for a very special atmosphere. The Albert Park circuit is spectacular and everything points to it being an interesting weekend. Carlos Sainz is expected to be back in the car, having had to miss Jeddah with appendicitis and he and team-mate Charles Leclerc will most likely be fighting at the front of the field, as they have done in the first two rounds.The circuit. The Albert Park track made its first appearance on the Formula 1 calendar in 1996. It features plenty of medium to high speed corners, with four DRS zones to provide plenty of excitement. Turn 1 is a quick chicane with walls on one side and a gravel run-off on the other, making it one of the trickiest sections, especially as it is followed by a long straight, before drivers brake heavily for turn 3, a favourite overtaking spot, as it comes at the end of a DRS zone, but mind out, here too there’s a gravel run-off area lying in wait. Turns 9 and 10 are definitely among the quickest corners on the track and overtaking is possible here, although drivers can also opt to stay in the slipstream and then give it their all to pass into turn 11, where overtaking carries a bit less risk.
Formula 1 returns to the Nürburgring after an absence of seven years as part of this unusual 2020 calendar. The Eifel Grand Prix is the eleventh round of the season, named after the mountainous region between Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia, close to the Belgium-Luxembourg border. The Eifel is home to the track which hosted the German GP up to 1976 on the long version of the circuit. At almost 23 kilometres long, the hellish Nordschleife was abandoned after Niki Lauda’s accident on 1 August 1976 on lap 2 when his Ferrari 312 T2 hit an earth bank after Bergwerk corner. The Austrian was trapped in his car that then caught fire. The Austrian was saved by the prompt intervention of fellow drivers Guy Edwards, Harald Ertl, Brett Lunger and Arturo Merzario who braved the flames to pull the driver out of the cockpit and drag him to safety.GP-Strecke. Racing returned to the Nürburgring in 1984, but at the new track known as GP-Strecke. It is definitely less spectacular than its predecessor and today it is 5.148 km long. It is popular with the drivers and has produced some very exciting racing. Scuderia Ferrari has won here six times, to add to the eight wins on the long track. The current layout features several medium speed turns and long straights which is why the aero level tends to be medium. The track rises and falls in several places, following the undulations of the Eifel region. For example, the first braking point is downhill with a very tight and difficult corner. The track continues downhill to turn 8 when it begins to climb back up, culminating at turn 12. From here it is downhill again for a long semicircular section where it is possible to use the DRS. It then climbs to a chicane before the final corner which has often seen some spectacular passing moves, with the other DRS zone being down the start-finish straight.
The last race of the year also greets Kimi's career in the redThe last stage of a very long season will end on Sunday night, in the evocative setting of Yas Marina. But the 2018 Formula 1 on track does not end with the weekend of Abu Dhabi: Tuesday and Wednesday, in fact, the track will host the last test session, which is already a step in the future, intended as it is to testing and development of the Pirelli tires for next year. For Scuderia Ferrari, the program includes the presence of Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc, or the formation of 2019.The Grand Prix of the Emirates is also an opportunity to greet the last race in red by Kimi Raikkonen, after eight seasons with the team of the Cavallino. The first period - that of the world title - lasted from 2007 to 2009, the second from 2014 to today. Kimi is already the fifth driver of all time for the number of appearances and GP disputed; with two more years of career ahead of him, there are prerequisites for becoming the number one!The transfer of the Scuderia began on Saturday with the first departures, the test team will return on Thursday 29. Apart from a possible rain shower in the next two days, the weather in Abu Dhabi does not reserve any surprises for the activity on the track, with temperatures in the order of 30 degrees for tests and races. The night, as always, will add charm to the weekend.
