Images provided by the Italian Coast Guard show the rescue of 211 migrants from an overloaded boat sailing in rough waters and bad weather around 15 miles off the coast of the Italian island of Lampedusa. The operation comes less than a week on from a deadly shipwreck off the Italian coast in which 67 migrants died.
The boat had capsized 5 km out to sea and was spotted by helicopter.
The Hellenic Coast Guard rescued several migrants from the water and rubber dinghies off the coast of Greek island Chios in the Aegean Sea, near Turkey. The coast guard told AFP that four children died and 22 people were rescued.
The Italian coastguard rescues 17 migrants, six of whom had already fallen into the water near the island of Lampedusa.
The crew of the Greek coastguard patrol boat jumps to life as they pull 48 migrants out of a rubber dinghy in the sea off the island of Samos. They will soon join the masses at the hugely overcrowded camp on Samos. Over 6,000 people currently live there, 10 times the camp's nominal capacity.
