The United States says it stands by Moldova's sovereignty after rebel officials in the breakaway Transnistria region appealed to Russia for protection. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says Ukraine is still inflicting major losses on Russia, despite Kyiv not managing to regain captured territory.
