The United States says it stands by Moldova's sovereignty after rebel officials in the breakaway Transnistria region appealed to Russia for protection. "The United States firmly supports Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters. SOUNDBITE
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says Ukraine is still inflicting major losses on Russia, despite Kyiv not managing to regain captured territory.
