A mother and her three children are dead after a fire ripped through their mobile home on Christmas morning, prompting California officials to call it a "Christmas tragedy." Vanessa Johnston reports.
Several impromptu animal shelters have opened in northern California to help people evacuated from areas affected by devastating wildfires to house their pets. Animal shelters at Napa Valley College and Crosswalk Community Church allow pets like cats and dogs to stay with their owners or in a separate room. Fifteen separate wildfires raging in Northern California have killed at least 23 people, destroyed over 3,500 properties, and scorched over 122,000 acres of land. Over 8,000 firefighters and 120 aircraft continue to battle the blazes.
Authorities in California say at least one person has died as a result of the Sand Fire in Santa Clarita and 18 homes have been destroyed. Rough Cut (no reporter narration).
A five-year-old was honored with a plaque by the San Bernardino County Fire Department for saving his grandmother from a fire.
Images show the scene after an overnight explosion at a warehouse near the airport in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. Authorities say the blast killed one person, a teenager, and injured more than 160 others. According to Uzbekistan's emergency ministry, the explosion was caused by powerful lightning. IMAGES
