Hurricane Norma strengthened to a Category 3 storm as it approaches a tourist hotspot on Mexico's Pacific coast. The hurricane -- which at one point was a Category 4 out of five on the Saffir-Simpson scale -- is now packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (120 miles per hour), the US National Hurricane Center says in its latest update. Strong winds hit the popular beach resort of Puerto Vallarta on Mexico's Pacific coast as Hurricane Lidia makes landfall as an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm, threatening to bring flooding and mudslides according to forecasters. Lidia came ashore near Puerto Vallarta packing maximum sustained winds of around 140 miles (220 kilometers) per hour, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. IMAGES
