This week the House of Representatives returned to Washington for the first time since the election. According to CNN, another election was at the top of their agenda: Speaker of the House. House Democratic leadership elections will be Wednesday and Thursday. They are likely to see the 117th Congress run by the same players. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to hold on to her speakership. She is running unopposed. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and House Majority Whip James Clyburn also do not face challenges. Chairman of the Democratic Caucus Hakeem Jeffries is also running unopposed. Progressives, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, are disappointed that attempts at a insurgency against current Democratic never materialized.
