Austrian police identify 71 bodies found in abandoned truck, and confirm three people have been arrested in Hungary. Natasha Howitt reports.
Dozens of decomposing bodies of migrants have been discovered inside a delivery truck abandoned on the side of the road in Austria on Thursday, said Hans-Peter Doskozil, director of the police in the eastern state of Burgenland.
Images show the presence of Bulgarian police at the scene where 18 migrants were found dead in an abandoned truck, near the village of Lokorsko, 20 kilometres (12 miles) northeast of Bulgaria's capital Sofia. The vehicle "was illegally transporting around 40 migrants hidden under some wood", the interior ministry said. "Eighteen of them have died." It is believed to be one of the deadliest people smuggling incidents recorded in the country. The cause of the migrants' deaths has not been established. IMAGES
