Authorities say more than 4,200 migrants trying to reach Europe have been rescued from boats in the Mediterranean in last 24 hours. Jillian Kitchener reports.
Migrants rescued by a ship chartered by NGOs disembark in Sicily and are taken care of by the authorities. The Ocean Viking, chartered by SOS Méditerranée in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), rescued 114 people on December 16, including minors and two newborns who were on an inflatable boat in distress in international waters off the coast of Libya. Gran Canaria, Oct 13 (EFE).- Spanish authorities rescued 67 migrants of Maghreb origin Wednesday, including five minors and a woman, from two boats that were traveling near the south of Gran Canaria.The passengers of the first boat were 29 men and there were 32 men, one woman and five minors boarding the second one, the Maritime Rescue sources told EFE.
