Around 450 Syrian fighters and their families were evacuated from two besieged areas on Monday under the kind of operation that the United Nations hopes can be a stepping stone towards a wider peace accord in the country's civil war.
Rebels and Syria's army agree a deal to evacuate all residents and insurgents from the besieged Damascus suburb of Daraya, ending one of the longest stand-offs in the five-year conflict.

Syrian rebels and the main opposition group cautiously welcome an idea proposed earlier by Russia for a weekly 24-hour pause in fighting to allow aid to reach besieged civilians in Aleppo, provided the United Nations can monitor and enforce such a truce. Diane Hodges reports.
