Italdesign and Airbus unveiled the 'Pop.Up', the world's first fully electric, zero emission, drone-carried vehicle, at the Geneva International Motor Show on Tuesday. The 'flying car' was designed to help relieve traffic congestion in cities by simply flying out of traffic. The car's driver sits in a frame that is fitted within an autonomous car. When traffic builds up, the driver has the opportunity to escape through calling a drone on their iPhone to wherever they are sitting. The drone then lifts the capsule into the air, and carries it and the driver off to unpolluted freedom. Of course, flying cars present many problems with air traffic control and safety, so the technology is not quite ready for mass adoption, but the concept is exciting. Welcome to "Modest Fashion Week," a fashion show that features the latest in prudent clothing which covers as much of the female form as possible. Models hit the catwalk wearing hijabs, long-hem dresses, and other modest and religiously-minded apparel as the first annual Modest Fashion week kicked off at the Saatchi Gallery in the UK capital on Saturday. Some 40 designers displayed garments at the event, which aims to pitch fashionable new products to anyone who prefers a more modest style compared to more revealing clothing. Of course, the main segment is practitioners of religions which tend to encourage followers to abide by centuries-old fashion traditions. Much of the apparel paraded on the catwalk featured fashion themes taken from Islamic tradition. The event was organised by UK based e-commerce modest fashion company 'Haute Elan' who say that modest fashion is one of the fastest growing consumer markets. That should come as no surprise - the Pew Research Center has determined that the World's population of Muslims will grow twice as fast as the rest of the world and that Islam is expected to become larger than Christianity by the end of the century. The market certainly looks large and if Muslim countries grow more stable, Western companies who got in on the trend early may experience some major demand and major growth. Alongside the catwalk was a show hall where attendees could try on and even buy apparel shown off by many of the designers present. Debenhams became the first major British retailer to begin offering different hijab styles and brands as part of its regular collection. Who knows? Perhaps the future of fashion lies in the modest traditions of the past.
Scientists from the Moscow Technological Institute showcased what could be the future of accessible medicine, a drone equipped with a defibrillator, which could decrease response times to heart attack cases dramatically. The drone’s maximum speed is about 30 mph, it features a maximum flying distance of about 15 miles, and it can be operated for 30 minutes without charging.
An all-new hybrid 'universal transport' prototype was showcased at the MAKS airshow in Russia on Wednesday, called the BORTS Triton, a wheeled offroad vehicle which has also has hovercraft capabilities as well an aerochute, which means that this one of a kind auto can conquer the land, water, and skies. The two-seater SUV is adept on land as an electrical car, uses an aerochute when converted into a plane and becomes a hovercraft once on water all thanks to a low-noise, ten-blade propellor.
Robots were the talk of the town at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show Asia, which is currently taking place in Shanghai. Although some of the robots were nothing more than little entertainment gadgets, it's becoming clear that robots will form an integral part of our future. A range of personal robots, including remote controlled bots with sensors and video cameras and personal assistant robots crawled and wheeled their way into people's hearts, but businesses are also preparing to get into the new trend with slew of robotic workers.
