Cat and Bird Become Unlikely Best Friends

If you've ever seen the Looney Tunes cartoon featuring Sylvester the Cat and Tweetie Bird, you know that cats and birds are mortal enemies. Well one feline named Bonifatsy was able to suppress his hunger and killer instincts and become the unlikely best friend of a parrot in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk. Irina decided to cautiously introduce the parrot to her cat Bonifatsy after buying her. Strangely enough, the parrot was the initiator of the friendship, and Bonifatsy responded to the bird's overtures warmly. Interspecies friendships occur rarely in nature, but are more common among household pets. Scientists speculate that different species may become friends due to a need for social bonding from the predator and a need for protection from the smaller animal.
