Would You Buy a Single 'Designer' Strawberry at $20 a Pop?

Description

You know things have gotten a bit out of hand when groceries start selling designer fruit individually. Well, that's exactly what Hong Kong's Citysuper grocery stores are doing. This designer strawberry package somes with one hand-wrapped strawberry selected by a special employee and costs a whopping $22 each. The supermarket has started selling individually wrapped strawberries, alongside other fruit, in an attempt to muscle in on the ’designer fruit’ market. The single piece of fruit sits on a bed of synthetic straw and pink Styrofoam, with packaging boasting that it is imported "fresh by air" from Japan. Residents of Hong Kong have been largely sceptical of the worth of the Kotoka strawberry gift box, both on social media and in the shops. Perhaps fruit enthusiasts have more cash than sense.
