Police officers and civilians ran for cover as sniper fire rained down around the Dallas city center on Thursday. Police announced that a fifth officer had died after being fatally shot by so-far unidentified assailants. Sniper rounds ripped through the Dallas night during a protest against the recent fatal police killings of African Americans Alton Sterling and Philandro Castile. The assailants were apparently targeting police - 11 officers were shot, 5 fatally.
Attention, Samsung computer owners: the company would like to strongly urge you to avoid upgrading to Windows 10. It’s not because of Microsoft’s upgrade tactics, it’s because Samsung is horrible at updating drivers. Nearly two years after the first builds were made widely available, Samsung is still telling customers the drivers on its website are not compatible with the latest Windows version. It’s not as though Microsoft has been quiet about the impending arrival of Windows 10.
In its pursuit to push out its newest operating system to as many consumers as possible, Microsoft has set the Windows 10 update on previous versions of Windows to "recommended" status.
Instead of waiting for wireless carriers to approve and push out software updates for phones running Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft is taking matters into its own hands. Microsoft quietly announced on its Ignite blog that it will "proactively update supported devices with necessary updates to address issues." Although the blog post refers to updates for business and enterprise licenses, ZDNET confirmed with a Microsoft spokesperson that the new move will apply to all devices running Windows 10 Mobile, whether business or personal. The change — as minor and boring as it may sound — is a big win for users.
