The UN's Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland says Israel's limited steps to let aid into Gaza are "positive," but fall "short of what is needed." "The delivery of humanitarian aid in the Strip continues to face nearly insurmountable challenges. Amid displacement on an unimaginable scale and active hostilities, the humanitarian response system is on the brink," Wennesland tells the UN Security Council. SOUNDBITE
US defence secretary, Lloyd Austin says that the US would "evaluate any future steps that would prioritise both our democratic and our security goals" referring to the situation in Niger in a speech made in Nairobi. The comments comes a day after French President Emmanuel Macron announced the withdrawal of French troops and diplomats from the country. "We really want to see a diplomatic solution evolve" says Austin. SOUNDBITE
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expresses support for Azerbaijan's military operation in the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
