This animation shows the function of the adaptive suspension technology in the Audi S3 Sportback.
The suspension of the new Audi A3 Sportback - with a four-link rear axle for engines from 110 kW (150 PS) - is sporty and balanced, combining pleasant ride comfort with good dynamics. Upon request, the suspension is available with adaptive damper control, which simultaneously lowers the body by 10 millimeters (0.4 in). Each damper permanently adapts to the road condition, the driving situation and the settings in the Audi drive select dynamic handling system, creating a wide spread between highly comfortable roll motion and agile handling. With the sport suspension - standard in conjunction with the S line exterior, otherwise an option - the focus is clearly on the latter. Due to the tauter tuning of the suspension and dampers and the fact that the vehicle is lowered by 15 millimeters (0.6 in), the compact model conveys an even more direct contact with the road surface.
To match the more striking exterior of the new Audi A3 Sportback, the interior has also been significantly sharpened. There are quite a few innovations here – from the shifter design and air vents to the decorative fabric inlays and new interior lighting. All these elements are precise and detailed, emphasizing the vehicle’s progressive and technical look.
The all-wheel drive system’s intelligent control works predictively, always looking ahead by means of sensors and the continuous analysis of the data collected on driving dynamics and driver behavior.
The electric all-wheel drive in the Q4 e-tron top models has an asynchronous motor (ASM) on the front wheels that can rev at up to 14,000 rpm. It is installed coaxially and has combined cooling with coolant and oil. The principal advantages of the ASM are its short-term overload capacity and the minimal drag losses when it is inactive – these are important because the front motor does not contribute to the drive in the majority of driving situations for reasons of efficiency.
