France is reporting 278 new deaths from coronavirus, but also announced a steep fall in the number of hospital patients, as the country prepares to gradually ease its lockdown. France reports that 833 more people have died of COVID-19 in hospitals and nursing homes over the previous 24 hours, its highest daily toll since the epidemic began. SOUNDBITE
The coronavirus has caused four more deaths in France, bringing the total death toll to 25, Health Director Jérôme Salomon has announced. Among the dead, fifteen are men and ten are women, he said. SOUNDBITE
"The coming weeks will be tough, our hospital services will be put to the test", says French Prime Minister Jean Castex, as France extends the anti-Covid-19 curfew in place in nine cities to large parts of the country, taking to 46 million the number of people forced to stay indoors at night.
