One Hindu religious holiday takes the phrase 'fighting fire with fire' to a whole other level. Hundreds of Hindu devotees gathered to celebrate Agni Keli, also known as the 'fire fight' in the Indian city of Kateel on Thursday, by throwing burning palm fronds at one another in order to appease Hindu goddess Durga. The annual eight-day celebration takes place every April at the Kateel Durga Parameswari Temple. Devotees split into two groups and face off from a distance of between 30 to 50 feet. The fiery action attracts thousands of spectators, who watch as the torch-wielding men try to set each other ablaze. Each participant only gets 5 palm fronds to throw, so the entire spectacle lasts only about 15 minutes. If any of the worshippers does suffer any burns, they are immediately sprayed with the holy waters of Kumkumarchane. The Hindu goddess Durga, also known as Devi and Shakti, is the goddess of war whose main aim is to fight the demonic forces which threaten the innocent, punishing those who commit injustice. The fronds of Agni Keli are thought to symbolize the righteous anger of Durga and her battle against evil.
Former Trump administration cybersecurity official Chris Krebs is considering taking legal action against Joe diGenova. Krebs drew President Donald Trump's wrath when he defied Trump's claims of voter fraud, saying the 2020 election 'was the most secure in American history.' DiGenova is a Trump campaign lawyer, who Trump recruited after seeing him on Fox News. In an interview on 'The Howie Carr Show' on Monday, diGenova pubicly called Krebs an 'idiot' and a 'class-A moron,' and called for his execution. ...He should be drawn and quartered. For months, child welfare organizations have been dealing with the pandemic and its impact on at-risk children. But now, CNN reports workers have a new thorn in their sides: the QAnon conspiracy theory. It casts President Donald Trump as the hero in a fight against the 'deep state' and a sinister cabal of Democratic politicians and celebrities who abuse children. Child abuse hotline workers say believers in such unfounded theories are jamming up the lines, preventing true reports and children in need from getting through. What's more, when QAnon believers invoke the names of reputable organizations in their rhetoric, it tarnishes the good names of child welfare professionals. More than 100 anti-trafficking and child welfare organizations have already published an open letter warning of the dangers QAnon poses to their work.
U.S. voters went to the polls starkly divided on how they see Trump’s response to the coronavirus. In places where the virus is most rampant now, Trump received enormous support. In the 376 counties with the highest number of new cases per capita, 93% voted for Trump. That is an overwhelming majority, according to reports at HuffPost.com. 93% is a rate above other less severely hit areas, which coincidentally went with Biden. Most were rural areas in the Dakotas, Montana, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Iowa.
A bizarre ritual in the Indian village of Bhidawad sees scores of men lie down on the road while a herd of cattle is driven right over them. Crowds stand on either side, forcing the cows to travel over a narrow path where the worshippers lie. The men willingly get trampled by cows and bulls because they believe this act will cleanse them of their troubles and bless them with prosperity.
