Non-Emergency 311 Calls Can Accurately Predict Opioid Overdose Hotspots

Many cities use 311 as a non-emergency phone line. A new study has shown the calls to the number can accurately predict future opioid overdose hotspots. According to UPI, the accuracy of the prediction is more than 90%. The study shows that neighborhoods with high rates of opioid-related overdoses make more calls to non-emergency hotlines. Most of the non-emergency reports involve code violations, abandoned vehicles, and other public nuisances. 311 reports of pests, unsanitary conditions, and streetlight outages predict future overdose hotspots more than 80% of the time.

U.S.Sees 30% Increase In Methamphetamine Overdose Deaths

Methamphetamine overdose deaths in the United States are on the rise. According to UPI, the deaths have increased nearly 30% from 2011 to 2018.
