The biggest trial in France's modern history opened on Wednesday of 20 suspects charged over the November 2015 Paris attacks that saw 130 people killed, with the expected nine months of hearings set to reopen still raw wounds. FRANCE 24's Terrorism Expert Wassim Nasr has the details.

Asif Arif is the co-author of a book about terrorist links between France and Belgium. On the third anniversary of the Paris attacks across the city which killed 130 people, including at the Bataclan concert hall, he told us that Islam is now part of the solution to much jihadist activity. He believes the religion is needed to help authority figures understand where the wrong concept of jihad comes from, and to help those who may have been radicalised get back on the right track.
Two years on, commemorations to remember the 130 killed, along with the survivors of the shootings at the Bataclan concert hall, the national stadium and at the terraces of Right Bank cafés. The new normal includes beefed-up anti-terror laws and the rout of jihadists on the battlefield in Iraq and Syria. ISIS may be on the run but are we any better at counter-radicalization? In a year that's seen attacks most notably in Manchester, London and Barcelona, are we any the wiser as to what to do?
