Republican lawmakers are planning to delay certification of Joe Biden's 2020 election victory. Pres. Donald Trump and his allies have tried to overturn the election for weeks. They have pushed "baseless" claims of election fraud. GOP Sen. Ben Sasse is slamming plans to delay certifying the election. He took to Facebook to share his dismay. "If you make big claims, you had better have the evidence." Sasse said the president has no evidence to back up his claims of election fraud.
President Donald Trump continues to falsely insist he won the presidential election. His supporters are rallying behind him. They gathered in droves today in Washington, DC, to defend Trump's accusations of mass voter fraud. Business Insider reports that Trump's accusations have been disproven over 50 times. President-elect Joe Biden won the 2020 election, and will take office January 20. Trump's supporters at the march refused to acknowledge Biden's victory. They were also parroting the same baseless allegations the president has been making since the results came out in November.
The public should expect a "flurry" of pardons before President Donald Trump leaves office. A source close to the White House suggested this, according to reports at CNN. The reality is that pardons happen at the end of almost all previous administrations. This source said Trump's advisers say it would perfectly fine for Trump to pardon his family members. He may also pardon other associates preemptively, even if they haven't been charged with any crimes. Trump's allies in Congress and conservative media have said the President should pardon himself.
President Donald Trump took to Twitter and gave his conditions for leaving the White House. President-elect Joe Biden would have to prove his election win was not fraudulent. Just a day earlier, Trump told reporters at the White House that would he would not concede the election. He said he would voluntarily leave if the Electoral College votes to make Biden president in December. Business Insider says Pres. Elect Biden does not have to disprove mass fraud in order to take office.
On Sunday, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska said Pres. Donald Trump should begin the transition process to President-elect Joe Biden. "President Trump has had the opportunity to litigate his claims, and the courts have thus far found them without merit." Murkowski was one of the first Republican senators to congratulate the president-elect. Murkowski's statement came a day after a judge dismissed a Trump campaign lawsuit in Pennsylvania.
