Protesters come out for the seventeenth consecutive day in Minsk, against President Alexander Lukashenko's disputed re-election. On Sunday 23 August 2020, tens of thousands took part in some of the largest protests in the country's recent history for a second Sunday in a row. Demonstrators have daily flooded the streets of the former Soviet country demanding the resignation of authoritarian leader Lukashenko since he claimed a sixth term in disputed elections on August 9. Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga calls off demonstrations planned for Monday and said his party would sit down for dialogue with the government after two weeks of protests.
