EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell says that Russian President Vladimir Putin's electoral victory was "based on repression and intimidation". Speaking as he arrives for a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, Borrell says "this has not been a free and fair election," but a vote held in a "highly restrictive environment." SOUNDBITE
US President Joe Biden says during his State of the Union address that Ukraine is capable of stopping Putin if the US provides Kyiv the "weapons it needs to defend itself." SOUNDBITE
EU top diplomat Josep Borrell says foreign ministers meeting with the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny will send a "message of support" to the Kremlin's opponents following Navalny's death in jail. SOUNDBITE
British Foreign Secretary David Cameron urges members of the US Congress to approve a Ukraine aid package. "We should be standing up for freedom, standing up for the right of this country to defend itself and making sure that Putin doesn't win," he says while on a visit to Bulgaria. The Republican leader of the US House of Representatives blocked war aid for Ukraine on February 13, ignoring President Joe Biden's plea that passing the bill was vital for standing up to Russian President Vladimir Putin. A group of 16 foreign nationals from Ukraine, Russia and Belarus go on trial in a Polish court on charges of espionage, preparing acts of sabotage and gathering information for Russia. The defendants include a Russian hockey player who played in the Polish league. The verdict for 14 of the 16 defendants who plead guilty is expected later today. IMAGES
