The US begins a new political chapter tomorrow with the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States. Washington DC has been on high alert ever since pro-Trump supporters rioters stormed the Capitol building on January 6th, with threats of more disruption and violence following that security breach. The country has tightened its security presence even in state capitals, ahead of the scaled-down ceremony, as FRANCE 24’s Catherine Norris Trent reports from Washington.
Thousands of US flags are placed on the grounds of the National Mall in Washington DC, where visitors arriving from around the country would normally stand and watch the Presidential inauguration.
