India enters phase 4 of COVID-19 lockdown

New Delhi/ Dharamsala/Amritsar, May 18 (EFE / EPA).- India on Monday entered what Prime Minister Narendra Modi called "phase 4" of the COVID-19 lockdown, in which shops and businesses outside designated containment zones are allowed to open at staggerred timings.India on Sunday extended the weeks-long nationwide coronavirus lockdown until 31 May as the number of infected people exceeded 91,000.Despite relaxing some measures, the government still banned some activities throughout the country regardless of the areas mapped into red, orange, and green zones based on the number of active Covid-19 cases.These include domestic and international air travel, metro rail services, running of educational institutions, hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality services.Venues for large public gatherings such as cinemas, shopping malls, gymnasiums, and entertainment parks will remain closed.The ban on social, political, cultural, and similar gatherings and other congregations, including at religious temples and places of worship will remain in place.(Camera: HARISH TYAGI/SANJAY BIAD/RAMINDER PAL SINGH).FOOTAGE SHOWS A METRO STATION IN NEW DELHI AND WORKERS COMMUTING IN DHARAMSALA AND AMRITSAR, INDIA.
