Sri Lankan Cabinet approves proposal to ban cattle slaughter

Colombo, Sep 29 (EFE/EPA).-The Sri Lankan government’s Cabinet Tuesday approved a proposal to ban cattle slaughter in the predominantly Buddhist island nation. Announcing this decision, Cabinet spokesman and Minister for Mass Media Keheliya Rambukwella said that legalising the decision would be done in due course. This follows a proposal by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on September 8 to ban cattle slaughter in the country, and its approval by the ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentary Group.(Camera: CHAMILA KARUNARATHNE)SHOT LIST: MEAT VENDORS IN COLOMBO, SRI LANKA.
