EU economic affairs commissioner Paolo Gentiloni says that the bloc has increased its growth forecast for 2021, as the eurozone economy holds strong against higher energy prices, supply chain bottlenecks and a fresh wave of Covid cases. SOUNDBITE
The International Monetary Fund raises its forecast for eurozone economic growth in 2021 on the back of better-than-expected performances in France and Italy. Gita Gopinath, chief economist at the IMF, says they now expect growth of five percent for the single currency area as a whole. SOUNDBITE
Paolo Gentiloni, European Commissioner for Economy, revises the eurozone's 2021 growth forecast "markedly" to 4.8 percent. Brussels had been expecting a 4.3 percent growth rate as the single-currency area recovers from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and associated lockdowns. SOUNDBITE
"Inflation is expected to drop back toward our longer run goal and the median inflation projection falls from 3.4 percent this year to 2.4 percent next year," US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell says during remarks in Washington. SOUNDBITE
