Scene in central Manchester at what would have been rush hour after the region was moved to tier three ("very high" alert) on Friday. Swathes of northern England, including Manchester, have been placed under more stringent restrictions, joining Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales with tighter curbs to help stem spiking coronavirus infections.
