Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina is a close ally of Joe Biden. Clyburn said Biden has fallen short in nominating Black figures to top positions in the administration, according to The Hill. "There is only one Black woman so far ... I want to see where the process leads to, what it produces. But so far it's not good." Black voters overwhelmingly backed Biden in both the Democratic primaries and the general election. Business Insider reports that many lawmakers and activists would like to see Black figures represented in key Cabinet positions.
CNN projects that South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham has held on to his Senate seat. Graham will return to the Senate for a fourth term after defeating Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison. South Carolina is a conservative state that hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1998. CNN has also projected that President Donald Trump will win the state's 9 electoral votes. Graham serves as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Graham pushed through Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation just days before the election. Graham had said previously that he would not appoint a Supreme Court judge during an election year.

Surveys conducted by Morning Consult and Quinnipiac University show the race as either tied or with one candidate holding a small lead. That's because his Democratic challenger, Jamie Harrison, raised a record $57 million in the third quarter of 2020. The deluge in cash led to an appeal by Graham to his supporters on Fox News, where he said that he 'was getting killed financially' by Harrison. Business Insider reports Harrison beat the fundraising record of then-Rep. Beto O'Rourke of Texas, who ran against Republican Ted Cruz in 2018. The most recent Quinnipiac University poll showed both Harrison and Graham tied at 48% support.
