Viña del Mar (Chile), Feb 23 (EFE) .- Ricky Martin said on Sunday, a few hours before performing at the Viña del Mar Music Festival, that living in the United States does not make him worry less about the "needs" of his people, in reference not only to his Puerto Rican compatriots but to all Latin Americans.SOUNDBITES BY RICKY MARTINTRANSLATION1. "The protests are important, letting the leaders of our countries know what we need as long as we do it in an orderly manner and have a plan. I only speak for what I have lived in Puerto Rico, and in the end, they are the same emotions, we are looking for (our ) rights (to be respected), that's all. In Puerto Rico, the beautiful thing was that there were no political parties, we all shared a mission and it was to do whatever it took to achieve justice, even if that meant removing our leaders and starting from scratch. It worked out very well, but it is important to have a plan of what will happen after the protests so as not to remain in limbo, and it can be much more painful if there is no plan. I urge the people to talk, and it is important to demand that we are respected but in an organized way. If you are part of that movement, that is fantastic, and if you are not, then understand and put yourself in the shoes of the people who demand what they do not have, that is all, and at the end of the day, (if) everyone in Chile come together to rescue this wonderful country that is full of beautiful, so beautiful people, (then) Chile would also serve as a domino effect, not only for the region but for all places in the world where we need to be heard: it happens in Hong Kong, in the Dominican Republic ... that's all, I want a lot of light and a lot of peace for Chile"2.
