Italy shuts all schools and universities in a bid to stop the deadly coronavirus from spreading, as Germany warned the outbreak had turned into a global pandemic. More than 90,000 people have been infected and around 3,200 have died worldwide from the virus, which has now reached some 80 countries and territories. IMAGES
Ireland loses the EU's coveted top trade job, paying the price for mistakes made by Phil Hogan, who resigned after breaking coronavirus guidelines. Instead, the post of trade commissioner now goes to EU veteran Valdis Dombrovskis, a former Latvian prime minister who is seen as a steady pair of hands for one of the bloc's most sensitive jobs.
