Love and loss in a time of revolution: 'Ayouni' documents the forcibly disappeared in Syria

Description

Bafta-nominated filmmaker Yasmin Fedda was making a documentary about Jesuit priest Father Paolo Dall'Oglio when his sudden disappearance in Raqqa, Syria, changed the course of his life and of her film. "Ayouni" tells the story of how the search for Father Paolo's whereabouts mirrored the campaign of Noura Ghazi Safadi, a human rights lawyer, whose husband Bassel was detained by the Syrian authorities in 2012.
