Atouf (West Bank), 5 June, EFE/EPA, (Camera: Alaa Badarneh).- The village of Atouf, near the Jordan Valley, was the scene of new clashes between Israeli soldiers and dozens of Palestinians protesting against Israeli plans to annex part of the West Bank. The Israeli government is preparing to annex parts of the West Bank, occupied by Israel in 1967, a plan promised by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during election campaigns and endorsed in January by the U.S. administration of President Donald Trump as part of a Middle East peace plan, but widely rejected in the region. Palestinian mourners gather for the funeral of three people killed in Jenin in an Israeli air strike on their vehicle. The Israeli military said it had "eliminated" Ahmed Barakat, who it accused of a May 2023 attack that killed an Israeli settler. Jenin and its adjacent refugee camp are a stronghold of armed Palestinian groups opposing Israel, which has occupied the West Bank since 1967. Israeli troops regularly carry out incursions into Palestinian communities but until several months ago had rarely struck the West Bank from the air. IMAGES
