Nablus, Jul 15 (EFE/EPA).- Palestinians in the West Bank city of Nablus gathered livestock Thursday morning in preparation for Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of the Sacrifice, one of the holiest holidays in the Islamic calendar.The festival commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim' willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail as a sign of submission to Allah and also marks the Hajj, the yearly Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest site in Islam.To mark the date, Muslims traditionally sacrifice a sheep, goat or cow and divide the meat into three, donating one-third to family, another to friends and neighbors and a final third to the poor and needy. Nablus, Jul 30 (EFE/EPA).- Palestinians in the West Bank city of Nablus began preparations for the holy feast of Eid al-Adha as vendors started gathering on Thurday in the markets, selling all kinds of sacrificial animals.The festival commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail as a sign of submission to Allah.Instead, he sacrificed an animal, and so do Muslims now, splitting the meat into three shares: for family, for friends and relatives and for the poor and needy.Eid al-Adha also marks the Hajj, the yearly Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest place in Islam.
