2021 Acura TLX to Make Racing Debut at Pikes Peak Hill Climb

The 2020 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb marks the official racing debut of the completely reimagined 2021 TLX, set to go on sale this fall. Acura will compete in the 98th running of the “Race to the Clouds” on Aug. 30 with two race prepared second generation TLXs powered by modified versions of the production 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, along with a “Time Attack” NSX supercar. Pacing the race to the 14,115-foot summit will be a development prototype of the highly anticipated TLX Type S, ahead of its market introduction next spring.

  • Porsche on top at Pikes Peak

    The narrow, twisting 12.5-mile, two-lane road that makes up the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb comprises no fewer than 156 turns, climbing to a finish line some 14,115-feet above sea level. The so-called Race to the Clouds has been an essential part of North American motorsport tradition for almost a century, with Porsche a pivotal player for many decades.Sunday’s 98th staging of this infamous high-altitude hill climb proved especially engaging for Porsche fans, with three heavyweights from the current stable of Weissach thoroughbreds going head to head in the factory standard ‘Time Attack 1’ class.The headline act for many was the 935 belonging to Bob Ingram and driven by Jeff Zwart, a multiple class winner at Pikes Peak making his 17th start last weekend. Alongside him were two 911 GT2 RS Clubsport cars, which share the same twin-turbocharged flat-six powertrain as the 935, mated to a bespoke eight-speed PDK transmission.

  • Hyundai IONIQ 5N to Compete at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

    With a new generation of owners now getting behind the wheel of the IONIQ 5 N, Hyundai will spark even more excitement at the 102nd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) on June 23, 2024. Two 641-horsepower IONIQ 5 N cars will go after the Electric Production SUV/Crossover record as part of a four-car effort.The drivers of the IONIQ 5 N vehicles going for the Electric Production SUV/Crossover record are Paul Dallenbach and Ron Zaras. Dallenbach is an eleven-time PPIHC winner and set an overall record in 1993. Zaras is a PPIHC rookie and the newest team member. Zaras, a media personality and former Hoonigan executive, was recently chosen to showcase the story of a motorsport enthusiast preparing for this massive challenge of competing at Pikes Peak.In addition, Hyundai will debut a modified specification IONIQ 5 N to compete at PPIHC prior to the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring on May 30. Two of these additional IONIQ 5 N models will be driven by Dani Sordo and Robin Shute. Shute is a four-time overall winner and King of the Mountain title holder at Pikes Peak. Sordo is a Spanish World Rally Championship driver for Hyundai Motorsport.
