President-elect Joe Biden unveiled a three-part plan to address the COVID-19 pandemic. This plan is to take place in his first 100 days as president, says Business Insider. The plan, he said on Tuesday, includes asking all Americans to wear a mask. He also plans to complete 100 million vaccine shots and open most schools. "My first 100 days won't end the COVID-19 virus, I can't promise that," Biden said. However, Biden does believe the 100 days we can change the course of the disease in the US.
Donald Trump Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19. According to Business Insider, the president's eldest son, tested positive for the virus earlier this week. A spokesman for Trump Jr. told reporters that the president's son is not having any symptoms of the virus. Trump Jr. has reportedly been isolating since he received his positive test. Trump Jr.'s infection comes after several other members of the Trump family and Trump Jr.'s girlfriend was also infected. President Trump, his wife Melania, and son Baron, as well as Trump Jr.'s girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle, have all been infected with the virus.
Sen. Rand Paul gave an interview with Fox News, where he gave very misleading information about the COVID-19 virus. He claimed that the millions of people who have survived COVID-19 should "celebrate" because they are "now immune" from the virus. "We should tell them to celebrate. We should tell them to throw away their masks, go to restaurants, live again, because these people are now immune." His comments contradict public health guidance. Business Insider reports there is no evidence people who have recovered from the disease have established immunity from it. The Republican senator of Kentucky also took aim at the country's top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Dr. Anthony Fauci is in hot water with the White House for speaking out in an interview, published Saturday, about the state of COVID-19 cases in the US. The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases warned that the US needed to make an 'abrupt change' in its handling of the pandemic. White House spokesperson Judd Deere sternly rebuked Fauci for making 'his political leanings known by praising the president's opponent.' Business Insider reports that for the first time since the outset of the pandemic, the US logged nearly 100,000 new cases of COVID-19 in a single day. President Donald Trump has continued to falsely blame the rise in cases on a rise in testing--and media coverage.
