San Salvador, Jul 21 (EFE).- The former president of El Salvador Elías Antonio Saca confessed on Wednesday before the Commission of the Legislative Assembly that during his tenure, he authorized irregular payments to officials of his administration, former prosecutors and former magistrates of the Supreme Court. "I authorized these payments believing that it was legal because it has been done by all administrations," Saca said, without specifying whether he also gave himself this type of secret payments.Saca, who governed the Central American country from 2004 to 2009, had been sentenced to 10 years in prison back in 2008 for the embezzlement of a total of $300m from state funds.
