AIS is the first and only active system that changes road conditions and makes it instantly safer. Through small injectors hidden inside the bumper, AIS sprays a controlled jet of water in front of the front wheels to eliminate excess water on the road, thus re-establishing contact between the ground and the tyre. In this way, in addition to restoring grip to the car, AIS allows the anti-lock braking systems and electronic stability control to operate where they would not have.AIS is therefore a fundamental system for all cars, both traditional and self-driving ones, which will make it possible to save lives and drastically reduce accidents in the most dangerous driving situations, such as highly wet asphalt, aquaplaning and not only that: Easyrain has begun studying an evolution of the AIS system capable of restoring grip not only in the event of loss of control on wet surfaces, but also in the event of loss of control in snow and ice conditions, improving further driving safety in other critical situations for the driver and autonomous driving systems. This project sees the collaboration of the Polytechnic of Turin.
How the brand-defining role of the Mercedes-Benz grille has changed over time1900 was a breakthrough year in the early days of the automobile. It marked the first time Wilhelm Maybach fitted his invention, the honeycomb radiator, to the Mercedes 35 PS. The patented design solved the problem of cooling the internal combustion engine once and for all, and enabled the production of vehicles that were not only more powerful but also more reliable. Because the radiator stood front and centre on the vehicle, it had an immediate impact on brand image. A new era had begun. Competitors rushed to imitate – a front end with an upright radiator was standard practice around the world until well into the 1930s. Now, more than 120 years later, here we are again. The battery-electric Mercedes-EQ vehicles are bringing a new, distinctive face to the brand with the three-pointed star – with their Black Panel grille melding seamlessly with the headlamps while doubling up as technology hub.
In Roman mythology, Diana was the goddess of the hunt, patroness of nature and the Moon. Always depicted with her bow and arrows, this protector watched over the forests and all life that was born in them. Today, her arrows point the way to the mobility of the future. Her name has been given to a pilot project for an autonomous car pioneered by SEAT S.A. engineers in collaboration with the Automotive Technology Centre of Galicia (Centro Tecnolóxico de Automoción de Galicia, CTAG). The DIANA project is also part of the SEAT S.A. Innova platform, a space that promotes continuous innovation in all areas of the company, fostering new ways of working based on co-creation and the start-up model.
