US Trade Rep Says NAFTA Talks Could Conclude As Soon As August

Description

According to a report by Automotive News, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said that it remains possible that NAFTA partners could reach a tentative agreement as soon as next month to revitalize the 24 year-old pact. While offering congressional testimony in Washington on Thursday, Lighthizer said that the timetable would meet the Mexican goal of having President Enrique Pena Nieto sign a new NAFTA agreement before leaving office in December. Lighthizer reportedly said, “You’re probably looking at having to have some conclusion during the course of August, and my sense is that that’s not an unreasonable time frame if everybody wants to get it done."
