Mont Saint-Michel: Infamous St Michael statue airlifted from island for restoration

People looking up over the skies of Normandy, the region of France, recently saw the statue of an angel, after St Michael of Mont Saint-Michel was airlifted out of the island for restoration. It's the first time the copper statue of the archangel has been removed from the sight, since it's been postponed several times in the past due to bad weather.

Mont-Saint-Michel statue removed for restoration

The statue of archangel Michael that sits on top of the iconic Mont-Saint-Michel abbey in Normandy was successfully removed on Tuesday, airlifted by helicopter. The 520kg figure will spend about two months in Dordogne, in southwest France, where it will be restored.
