One person was shot in undetermined circumstances as hundreds of people were protesting the police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott in Charlotte on Wednesday. Protesters and police clashed in the city centre as authorities fired volleys of teargas cannisters at the demonstrators. Police claim that Scott was carrying a gun, while his family is saying he was carrying a book. His death is the latest incident in recent police killings of black males.
Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton held a rally at the Abraham Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday. Clinton's speech was interrupted by a protester attempting to rush the stage. Two security agents jumped on stage to protect the presidential nominee while police detained and removed the protester. As police were removing the protester, Clinton jokingly commented that "some people get a little carried away, have you noticed that?"
Thousands of Bernie Sanders supporters staged a rally against Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton near the City Hall in Philadelphia, Tuesday. The rally, called 'Bernie or Bust,' was organised by the activist group 'Revolt Against Plutocracy.' The demonstrators supported Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders for president and called on his supporters not to vote for Clinton, despite him having urged them to do so.
Hundreds of Bernie Sanders supporters gathered in Vermont Park, outside Philadelphia on Sunday, to hold a rally in support of the Senator just before the Democratic National Convention, despite the fact that Sanders has already endorsed Clinton. The crowd heard impassioned speeches from actors Susan Sarandon and Danny Glover, who backed Sanders throughout his ultimately unsuccessful bid for Democratic presidential nomination.
