Firefighters from the ICMBio (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation), Brazil's federal protected areas agency, use helicopters and make firebreaks to combat a blaze in the Amazon rainforest. Keep your reading light as low as possible, and put your Kindle to sleep when you're not using it. Next, don't have it connected to the internet when you don't need it. Switch it to airplane mode in the Settings menu. Finally, when downloading books, charge both during the download and a little bit after, while the Kindle updates. That will save lots of juice!
The founder of the wildly successful online shoe company Zappos has died. He was just 46 years old. According to Business Insider, Tony Hsieh died from injuries related to a house fire in Connecticut, where he was visiting. According to Business Insider, Hsieh was described as a visionary by many, including Amazon, which bought Zappos in 2009. Former business partner and Zappos executive Alfred Lin remembered Hsieh as a 'gentle soul.' We'll remember Tony for that and the happiness he brought to so many people.
