Greece says it plans to return 10,000 migrants to Turkey by the end of next year. The announcement follows a deadly fire at the heavily overcrowded Moria camp, on the island of Lesbos.
Greek and EU authorities fine-tune an operation to expel to Turkey hundreds of migrants denied asylum in a landmark deal criticised by rights groups.

Ankara insists it follows international law, but if a migrant qualifies for refugee status they cannot be ruled to have broken the law by crossing a border.
Images of the Greek coastguard transporting rescued migrants back to land after their boat sank. An air and sea operation by the Greek coastguard has rescued 29 migrants after the boat sank in the Aegean Sea off the islands of Karpathos and Rhodes, leaving dozens missing.
