Vietnam's young tech talent is successfully drawing foreign funds to the country's booming startup scene. Natasha Howitt reports.
This strange, alien-looking craft combines aircraft wings with drone rotors to form an entirely new class of unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs. A tech company from Siberia called Optiplane Unmanned Systems started developing these hybrid drones, which they call convertiplanes, because they combine the best features of quadcopters and airplanes. The craft, which is called the Colibri S1, can take off and land vertically but has the ability to fly as far as an aircraft while also being able to hover over a target area.
The world’s first robot police officer officially reported for duty at the Dubai Mall in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday. The new robot was seen zooming around the world's largest mall, assisting shoppers with the payment of fines, as well as giving them directions and showering them with compliments. The high-tech police officer, unveiled at the GITEX Technology Conference in Dubai in 2015, features a touch screen menu in a screen on his torso so that mall visitors can easily scroll through the items and find what they need.
One Chinese delivery service has found a mesmerising high-tech way to reduce on labour and maximise on efficiency, putting scores of robots to work to sort over 200,000 parcels and packages a day. Chinese delivery service Shentong Express Tracking employs dozens of yellow-topped robots on fixed tracks in their vast storerooms to pick up and drop off parcels to their proper locations based on data provided by the parcel barcode.
