US Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications, Ben Rhodes, warned Turkey against engaging with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), during the daily press briefing in Washington D.C. on Monday. Rhodes said that although the US support the Turkish effort to rid Jarablus of so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) fighters, they do not however "support and we would oppose efforts to move south and engage in activities against" the SDF.
French civil security rescue teams arrive at a NATO military base in the town of Incirlik in the southern Turkish province of Adana. The US military's Central Command releases images of strikes on targets in northeastern Syria. Centcom, which oversees US military operations in the Middle East, said in a statement, "US forces responded today to rocket attacks at two sites in Syria, destroying three vehicles and equipment used to launch some of the rockets." Centcom added that four suspected Iran-backed militants responsible for one of the attacks were killed. IMAGES
Around 2,000 people including women and children arrived at the Turkish border this morning from Istanbul and walked through a field towards the Pazarkule border gate, an AFP correspondent said. The group included Afghans, Syrians and Iraqis. Thousands who were already at the border had spent the night in very cold temperatures and lit fires to warm themselves up, the correspondent added.
