VW expected to buy back 500,000 U.S. diesel cars

Sources tell Reuters the automaker Volkswagen is expected to buy back some 500,000 diesel vehicles sold in the U.S. that exceeded legal emission levels. Gavino Garay reports.

  • GM Recalls 68,000 Chevy Bolt EVs

    General Motors has issued a recall of over 60,0000 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles. According to Business Insider, the recall is due to at least five incidents of Bolt batteries catching fire. The vehicles affected by the voluntary recall were manufactured between 2017 and 2019. The automaker is working with US auto regulators to identify the causes of the fires. Experts advised owners to park the cars"outside and away from homes" until the repairs can be made. GM said it has developed software that will limit vehicle charging to prevent future incidents.

  • Volkswagen Has Bounced Back To Profitability

    Volkswagen is the world's largest carmaker. Business Insider reports the company returned to profit in the third quarter. This is thanks to surging demand for luxury cars such as Porsche and Audi in western Europe and China. VW's chief financial officer, Frank Witter, warned that "the coronavirus remains a central problem." VW said it's full-year 2020 profit would be "severely lower" than in 2019. The profits would still be in "positive territory" after a second-quarter loss of 1.7 billion euros ($1.99 billion). A series of cost-cutting measures launched earlier this year helped VW's performance during the third quarter.
